• What is a digital identity?

Digital identity can be defined as everything you want to post online and share with others. Use the digital tools for your own benefit and also benefit other people (Stoller, 2016). It arises organically from the use of our personal information on the internet and is created by an individual’s action. It is what makes other people different than you. “Everything you do on the web that presents your identity(Stoller, 2016)” Digital identity is your footprint on the web, the things can be searchable and it is with you. It is the body of information about people or organization device that is online. It might also be used for your success in a career that your employer is looking for the type of people that they need.

  • How do personal versus professional approaches to digital identity affect social media use?

Social media let people become more invisible as professional work or share personal information. I also noticed that many social media have developed personal account and professional account which is use for business. However, social media are all connected, we can still find people’s personal account from their professional account. “Professional identity is the professional self- idea of an individual grounded in attributes, beliefs, motives, values and experience (Jawed et al. 33)” When people the social media on personal accounts or post personal ideas or pictures. People tend to be more relax and free. And be able to let other people see if you are online and are able to comment on your post. However, professional accounts like when the instructor is using to teach. People tend to think more before they post anything. What’s more, “Professional identity also develops through internet-based social interaction on the online platforms and communication tools(Jawed et al. 33) ” which is also different from personal social media use.

  • How do digital identities converge in networked publics? What are the impacts and/or benefits?

The public network is that everyone can connect. Digital identities will converge in the networked publics when you allow the information that shares on the internet that everyone can see. For the networked in the public, it is easy to find the personal information online and more likely can search for professional information as well. Everything that you posted online is connected. If people want to find any information for you, they are more likely to find something that you posted online. I remembered that I was posting to sell something online and put my phone number in networked publics. And when I was doing the projects with my classmates and I created a social media account my phone number is showing somehow. I guess this is how my digital identities converge in networked publics. And I give the permission to show my phone number online. The benefits are that people may get to know you before they even meet you in person since it might have much personal information on social media.

  • Can a digital wallet provide trust in networked publics?

A digital wallet is a software system that keeps our payment information and also password. It is very convenient for us to shop online. According to Davos’ video, it talks about that “over 60% of the global GDP expected to l be digitized in 2022. And more and more people, businesses, devices things interact online (Davos, 2019)” Digital wallet can be used together with the mobile online banking so that we are able to pay for any purchases with the smartphones. Moreover, there is an economic benefit for the digital identity. We can think of “all the time we can save, with the trusted, secured digital identity we can build many digital services to make our life much easier (Davos, 2019)” For example, I set up apple pay on my phone which is very convenient to pay things. I can simply tap and receive the electronic receipt. There are still risks to using a digital wallet since people may steal your password, however, I believe the firewall-secured server is very secure nowadays. When we travel to another country, the digital wallet is very useful. We don’t need to transfer the money, as it works automatically. All in all, I think we can trust digital wallet in most of the networked publics, but we still need to be careful to protect our banking information online.
